CSFP - The Commodity Supplemental Food Program

What is the Commodity Supplemental Food Program?
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program was created to provide an opportunity for low-income persons who are especially vulnerable to malnutrition to receive specified nutritional foods that will provide them with a more adequate diet and help them achieve good health.

CSFP works to improve the health of low-income pregnant and breastfeeding women, other new mothers up to one year postpartum, infants, children up to age six, and elderly people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA commodity foods. It provides food and administrative funds to States to supplement the diets of these groups.

Program Administration
The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers CSFP through grants to individual States. In Colorado, the program is administered by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Food Distribution Programs.
