National
Foster Care Month
The month of May is National Foster Care Month website
provides an opportunity to show appreciation for
the dedication of the foster families who care for
these children and youth and the social workers who
support them. This website provides media kits,
tools, and information about events that will occur
in each state. The goal is to reach people
all across the nation to get involved as foster parents,
volunteers, mentors, employers or in other ways. Colorado's
Foster Care Recognition Award has been established
to celebrate and recognize outstanding professionals
during the month of May in honor of National Foster
Care Month.

Colorado State Foster
Parent Association (CSFPA)
Located in Denver, this association is a private
not for profit agency which is committed to supporting
foster care of children by providing education, advocacy,
and resources for Colorado foster parents.
Annie E Casey (AECF)
This organization has worked to build better futures
for disadvantaged children and their families
in the United States. The primary mission of the
Foundation is to foster public policies, human
service reforms, and community supports that more
effectively meet the needs of today's vulnerable
children and families.
Child Welfare League of
America (CWLA)
This organization is dedicated to helping at-risk children
and their families. 1200 member agencies provide services
in the areas such as adolescent parenting and pregnancy
prevention, child abuse prevention, treatment, and
adoption.
Administration of Children
and Families (ACF)
This organization provides federal oversight of many
human services programs, including state child welfare.
Their mission is to assist state, tribal and local
grantees in addressing the human/social service needs
of families and children. They seek to improve the
quality of life for families and the prospects for
success of their children through goal oriented partnerships
and program management.
National
Resource Center for Permanency Planning and Family
Centered Practice (NRCFCPPP)
This organization contracts with the ACF to provide
technical assistance and training to states. The focus
is to increase the capacity and resources of State,
Tribal, and other publicly supported child welfare
agencies to promote family-centered practices that
contribute to the safety, permanency, and well-being
of children while meeting the needs of their families.
The NRCFCPPP helps States and Tribes to implement strategies
to expand knowledge, increase competencies, and change
attitudes of child welfare professionals at all levels,
with the goal of infusing family-centered principles
and practices in their work with children, youth and
families who enter the child welfare system.

Casey Lifeskills Inventory
These life skills assessments provide instant feedback
to users. Customized learning plans provide a clear
outline of next steps, and the accompanying teaching
resources are available for free or at a minimal cost.
The assessments are appropriate for children/youth
from 8-18.
National Foster Parent
Association
The National Foster Parent Association is the only
national organization which is intended to support
foster parents, and provides a on behalf of all children.

This bimonthly magazine is intended for foster and
adoptive parents (domestic adoptions). The magazine
explores current issues and provides articles and stories
that are relevant to foster and adoptive parents.

Opportunities
This national foundation’s mission is to help
make youth in foster care make smooth transitions into
adulthood.
Kids Count
This is is a national and state-by-state effort to
track the status of children in the U.S. By providing
policymakers and citizens with benchmarks of child
well-being, KIDS COUNT seeks to enrich local,
state, and national discussions concerning ways
to secure better futures for all children. KIDS
COUNT is a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
AdoptUsKids
The Collaboration to AdoptUSKids is a project of The
Children’s Bureau, part of the Federal Department
of Health and Human Services. In October 2002,
The Children’s Bureau contracted with The
Adoption Exchange Association and its partners
(The Collaboration to AdoptUSKids) to devise and
implement a national adoptive family recruitment
and retention strategy, operate the AdoptUSKids.org
website, encourage and enhance adoptive family
support organizations and conduct a variety of
adoption research projects.
Mile High Hope
Mile High Hope is a charitable organization organization located
in Denver to help youth in foster care through
educational scholarships and community involvement.
The primary community fundraisers are the annual Mile
High Hope Classic, a recreational bike/walk, and the
annual Hope Through Art Silent Auction.
FosterClub
FosterClub's mission is to provide encouragement, motivation,
information, education, and benefits for foster
youth. They discover other successful former foster
youth through the "Reach for the Stars" program,
send in opinions about personal foster care experience,
get recognition for overcoming obstacles, enter contests
(where everyone wins!), and more. The publications
give youth tools to help then anticipate and succeed. FosterClub
events give youth an opportunity to get involved
and grow.

Resource Book
This book describes Medicaid programs that support
independent living. Each chapter describes a specific
benefit or program available through Colorado Medicaid.
