Colorado Practice Initiative
Over the last several months child welfare caseworkers, supervisors, administrators, and State staff have been working together to develop a basic model of child welfare practice for Colorado. The basic model consists of a proposed vision, mission, values, standards, skills, and outcomes for child welfare practice.

This basic model does not yet contain the details of practice (eg. specific methods, strategies, tools). County Presentations of the Practice Model are ongoing. for now, however, we would like your feedback on this basic version of the model.  The framework is available online at the CPI Portal at:

http://cpiportal.omni.org

This opinion survey is strictly anonymous. Answers can not be linked back to the person filling out the survey. The evaluation team will combine all the information provided by all the participants and report out the results for the entire group on or before September 30, 2010. The direct link is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MYTTXB9

Please take time to review the draft model framework and let us know your feedback.  If you have any questions, please contact David Menefee at 303-866-4379.

Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)
The 2009 Child and Family Services Review Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) was submitted to the Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families, Region VIII Office on December 28, 2009. The PIP was initially developed with members of the Sub-PAC Child Protection and Permanency Task Groups. It has been reviewed and reworked through the efforts of the CFSR Executive Oversight Committee, the Sub-PAC, Sub-PAC workgroups, the Colorado Social Services Directors Association and the Metro County Directors Association. The participation by all involved has helped ensure that there has been county, mental health and court involvement in developing the PIP.

Heart Gallery
The 2009-2010 Colorado Heart Gallery features 102 of Colorado's 550 children who are in need of "forever families." The Heart Gallery is one of Colorado’s most effective tools in matching older children with adoptive families.  These images are created by exceptionally talented professional photographers throughout the State. This year, twenty-seven photographers contributed to creating this spirit-filled exhibit of children waiting for a permanent spot in the heart and home of a family.  The 2009-2010 Heart Gallery Opening was held on October 26, 2009 at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.  This Opening was Colorado’s largest so far, with 88 photos representing 102 children, and over 325 attendees.

Sub-PAC
Child Welfare's Sub Policy Advisory Committee information is posted regularly on the Sub-PAC home page. Along with the Sub-PAC minutes, there is also information and minutes from the ARD Steering Committee, the Child Protection Task Group, Permanency Task Group, and the County Trails User Group.

Upcoming Trainings

SAVE THE DATES for Monthly Teleconferences for Child Protection Supervisors with Lorrie Lutz
Colorado is about to embark on an exciting new approach to child protection case consultation using monthly teleconferences conducted by Lorrie Lutz, LLC, with county department child welfare supervisors! These teleconferences are intended to build upon the "Connecting the Dots: Keeping Kids Safe and Connected" training sessions held during the past year throughout Colorado. To be eligible to participate in these phone conferences, supervisors (or administrators) must have attended at least one of Lorrie Lutz' training sessions offered in Colorado during the past two years. Please contact Carol Wahlgren if you have questions about the teleconferences and/or if you would like to reserve a month for your county to have a case selected for consultation.
